SOUTHGATE PREPARING FOR EURO 2020 QUALIFIER

England manager Gareth Southgate is preparing for the forthcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers. The coach is hoping to hand young talents opportunities to fire the Three Lions to glory following their success at the World Cup in Russia.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden is reportedly set to get his chance when Southgate releases the shortlist. Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho, 18, is also another proposed name in the list.

With Ashley young on the sidelines and Luke Shaw doing well at Manchester United, the 23-year old Shaw is set to be recalled to the fold after almost a year and half out. Southgate is increasingly turning to a young and talented base of stars, but with a few experienced legs.

Jamie Vardy and Gary Cahill were encouraged to retire from international football. The 23-year old Joe Gomez has been decent for the Reds so he would get his shot. The Liverpool star missed the Russia tourney due to injury but is now expected to feature. James Tarkowski of Burnley has been very good in his role so he is expected to get a call-up as well.Speaking of Burnley, with Nick Pope out injured, Southgate would likely turn to Southampton’s Alex McCarthy rather than Joe Hart of West Ham United.

The coach is ensuring all are in order ahead of the Nations League fixture against Spain at Wembley on Saturday, and then a friendly against Switzerland three days later. Southgate is hoping to build a solid crop of players that can go on to do magic at Euro 2020.
